How To Make My Website Secure: Q&A Series #8

Our newest Q&A session is dedicated to the issue of online store security: read all about the technical aspects of keeping your website safe and, of course, answering the most common question – how to make my website secure?

Taking care of your personal belongings is #1 priority.

And your dropshipping store is not simply a website you own – it’s not less than your personal achievement, your source of income, and, most importantly, your key to building a better future for yourself and your family.

How to make sure that this valuable asset won’t fall into the wrong hands?

Let’s figure it out!

How to make my website secure: common ways for website hacking

How to secure a website?

First and foremost, let’s look at the most common ways for a website hacking. While there is no sure way to know when the hacking happens, if it does, you will no doubt know that something is wrong. Nevertheless, here is what you need to be aware of:

  • Ransomware

The hacker will threaten to publish your data and/or withhold access to your site unless you pay a ransom sum.

  • Gibberish hack

You’ll spot loads of auto-created pages filled with keywords and gibberish, with the aim of getting them to rank on Google for key terms. When clicked on, they’ll redirect to a dodgy site.

  • Cloaked keywords hack

As above, but slightly more sophisticated – at first glance, these will look like your site’s pages, with altered written content.

  • Japanese keywords hack.

Creates random pages in Japanese full of affiliate links to stores selling fake merchandise.

  • Malicious code/viruses

If malicious code or a virus is inserted into your site, your site may well go down, or you could be unable to access it. Moreover, it may as well affect all your hardware.

  • Denial of Service (DoS)

Hackers use bots to overload a website with requests and crash the server it’s on.

  • Phishing

Scammers contact your clients pretending to be part of your business and using your branding in the hope of finding personal information.

1. What could be the most likely threats to MY store?

From the technical point of view, there are 3 basic threats that are important to consider:

  • Website platform or plugins malfunction

If you haven’t updated your CMS platform for a long time, or if you have installed some pieces of additional software (themes, plugins, add-ons, etc.) from an unreliable source, you are basically putting your store at risk.

  • Password hack

If you have a ‘weak’ password or if you keep it written in an easily available place, it won’t be difficult for hackers to steal your store data, as well as your money…and your business reputation.

  • Viruses

If there is no trustworthy antivirus software installed on the device you use to run your store, or if you use an outdated browser version, the device (and the store) gets especially vulnerable.

2. How to make my website secure if it’s not ready yet? What can I do on the store development stage?

While your store is just being developed, you can do the majority of the steps necessary to ensure its safety:

  • Consider which devices you’ll use to run your store. Contemporary automated solutions make it possible for you to access the store with the help of personal computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones. It gives you more freedom, and at the same time, more responsibilities. You need to check the browser versions on EVERY device and make sure you’re using the latest browser version.
  • The same is fair for antivirus programs: check if you have them installed on EVERY device you’ll be using for your dropshipping business, and update them to the latest version if necessary.
  • Create a strong password for your hosting account and for your website admin panel. Ideally, these passwords should contain at least 8 characters each, and it’s a great idea to include numbers and uppercase letters in them. The general rule is: the more complicated is the password, the harder it will be for a hacker to get an illegal access to your website.
  • Pay a special attention to the place where you are storing all your valuable passwords. It’s not a good idea to use any kind of online storage for this purpose.
  • Make sure that you’ve used the latest version of a CMS platform as the basis for your online store. Check its official website to learn more about the newest updates and most relevant proven versions.
  • Do your best to only install plugins, themes and add-ons that are officially recommended by the CMS platform developers. Be really careful about so-called nulled plugins that are distributed for free – they are very likely to contain viruses and hurt your webstore.

3. How to make my website secure if the store is already running?

First, make sure you’ve taken all the steps described above.

Then, do the following:

  • Follow the updates as soon as you learn about the newest ones. It’s vital for everything you use: the CMS platform, themes and plugins, antivirus software and browser versions. If you keep all of them up-to-date, it’s much harder for hackers and viruses to do harm to your store and you.
  • Change login and password from time to time to prevent any unpleasant surprises. Make sure to always use an actually working email address – this way, you’ll be able to restore the login details in case you lose or forget them.
  • Create backup copies of your webstore regularly – if something goes wrong, you won’t have to destroy the store and start all over again, you’ll simply have to go back to the latest saved version.

4. I’m worried and I don’t think it’s enough. Can I do something else?

If you think you need to do more to protect your website, our developers can recommend one of the following safety plugins for WordPress:

Simply speaking, these free plugins limit the number of login attempts when somebody tries guessing your login details and enter the admin panel, and they also alert you if there’s a security threat.

5. There’s a virus! Or a hacker attack. Or a dangerous software, I don’t know what’s it exactly! What should I do?

Stay calm! It’s gonna be fine, just follow these simple steps:

  • Scan your device for viruses and delete all the suspicious things your antivirus finds
  • Change the password to your hosting account, and the webstore login details
  • Try to remember if you’ve installed any pieces of software recently, and delete all the questionable elements
  • Update your CMS, all the trustworthy plugins and extensions to the latest version available
  • Restore your webstore using the most recent backup copy you have
  • If your store is built with the help of AliDropship solutions, don’t hesitate to contact our support team! The best option is to send an email to address – this way, you’ll be able to describe the problem in detail, tell about your actions, and attach screenshots if necessary.

Follow these simple rules and safely enjoy your thriving business!

3 Ways For An Online Business Owner To Go On A Careless Vacation

At some point, a vacation for an online business owner is a must. Let’s figure out how to easily leave your store behind, and how to minimize the negative effect of your temporary absence!

Everybody loves taking some time off.

Rest and relaxation are vital for our mental and physical health, which is why we would like to ask you to remember when you had your last vacation 🙂

Of course, we understand that dropshipping store owners, as much as any online business owners, are commonly unsure (and even nervous) about going on a vacation. Naturally, they are worried about the development of their cherished ventures, and they are afraid something can go wrong while they are away.

This is why we want to help you plan your online business activities for the period of your next vacation! We know how important it is to organize everything in the smoothest way possible in order not to harm the profits and the reputation of your enterprise. So, how does a vacation for an online business owner should look like?

How to plan your vacation if you’re an online business owner

online business owner on vacation

First of all, answer the following 4 questions:

  • What is the aim of my vacation? Is it to get rest, or to spend time with my friends and family, or to seek inspiration for new business ideas, or something else?
  • Will I be able to go online, or the place where I’m going has no Internet coverage?
  • Will I take my laptop with me, or I will only be equipped with a smartphone?
  • Do I really want to keep working on my online business during this vacation?

Generally, the following 3 scenarios are possible:

  1. Really need to get some rest, so I just want to forget about the store for some time
  2. I don’t mind working a bit, but the Internet coverage will be really limited / I won’t have the opportunity to take my laptop with me
  3. I simply want to try running my online business from a new location, so I’m taking the laptop and hoping for a bunch of new ideas to come!

Now, let’s discuss what you should do in every case!

I am a super tired online business owner and I just want to relax with no responsibilities

online business owner on vacation

Sometimes, a vacation is not just a whim, but a life-saving necessity.

We are all going through different life situations, so if you feel like you can’t take it anymore, just ignore the business temporarily. Don’t blame yourself for it; remember that you’ve totally deserved this vacation!

To make your full absence harmless for the business, you need to notify your potential buyers about the pause in your store’s activity. This is how it’s done:

  • Think of a short yet clear and informative message

Don’t include too many details: your clients don’t really need to know much about your personal life and the reasons to put the business on hold. Something like this will be more than enough:

“Dear visitor,

The store is currently under maintenance, so it won’t accept and process any orders, calls, and messages from May, 14th till May, 27th.

Please come back on May, 28th for happy and enjoyable shopping!”

That’s it, basically: you let the person know it will be temporarily impossible to get in touch with you, plus you specify the period of your absence and explain when you will return.

  • Make a post in every social network account linked to your store

The message you just created serves a really important purpose: you will use it to make a text post or a colorful banner, and place it on every social network page that is associated with your store.

On Facebook, it is possible to pin this post to the top of your page’s timeline. This way, it will be the first thing that a person sees while checking your page. On other social networks, just don’t post anything after this notification: this post should be clearly visible even to an inattentive reader.

  • Set up an auto reply email

In case someone tries to send you an email while you’re on vacation, they will automatically receive your pre-written letter explaining you’re currently unavailable. This makes a much better impression than no answer at all!

  • Change the mood message in Skype

If you have listed Skype as one of the possible ways to get in touch with you, use the mood message field to write about your temporary absence. Again, simply state that the store will undergo some maintenance, and provide details of its unavailability period.

  • Put your website in the ‘Coming Soon’ mode

Okay, so, as a smart and proactive online business owner on vacation,  you’ve warned everyone the store will be under maintenance. Now, let’s make it look like it.

This free WordPress plugin makes your website content invisible to the visitors. They will only see a ‘Coming Soon’ page that basically says that the site is currently unavailable. This way, no one will be able to browse the website contents and place an order, and it’s great because no one will have any troubles because of a pending order that is not getting processed.

  • Finish all the ad campaigns

While you’re absent and the website is unavailable, the promotional campaigns are meaningless and even harmful for your reputation, while paid ads on Facebook and Instagram shoutouts are also a waste of money.

If you keep them running, you will basically attract visitors to a non-working store that doesn’t make it possible to buy anything, and it makes no sense at all.

  • Leave your SIM card at home

Make sure that the phone number specified on your website/social network account won’t be available during your absence. You don’t really want to receive business phone calls while being on vacation, right?

TIP: give yourself 2-5 days to recover before getting back to business

If, for example, you are returning from a holiday trip on May, 24th, don’t put this exact day into your notifications! Make May, 28th your first official working day after the ‘maintenance’ works: these extra days will come in handy to sort out the store-related works and to set yourself in the right working mood.

My gadget/Internet resources will be limited, but I’d like to work a bit during the vacation

online business owner on vacation

So, you don’t mind keeping an eye on your dropshipping store while you’re away, but you can’t do as much as you’d like because of tech limitations.

For example, if you only have a tablet or a smartphone with you, you can definitely view your store stats or edit single product pages, but it might be technically impossible to process newly placed orders or to add new products.

Or, if you’re staying in a place with a limited Internet access, you can’t possibly be online round the clock, so even if you take a laptop, it won’t help you much.

In other words, this scenario means that you can only perform some part of the necessary business tasks, while the rest of the issues are nearly impossible for you to manage.

In this case, the best option for you is to temporarily delegate the store management to a different person: it can be either your acquaintance, or a virtual assistant hired through a services marketplace like Fiverr.

It might seem scary for an online business owner on vacation to make a complete stranger responsible for the whole venture, but with due preparations, you can totally handle it in a smooth and efficient way. This is how you should do it:

  • Automate as much as you can

The more processes are automated, the more difficult it is for your assistant to make things go wrong 🙂

It’s not a secret that automated dropshipping solutions make it possible to deal with the most challenging aspects of this business. A correctly chosen platform helps you easily perform the majority of managerial tasks, from product import to orders processing.

If you use such type of solutions to organize your daily dropshipping routine, it gets really easy for you to hand over the most important parts of it to someone else: all the procedures are streamlined, and basically, it takes only a couple of clicks to complete every task.

  • Find an assistant

It doesn’t really matter who exactly will be helping you while you’re on vacation.

It can either be a person you already know (a friend, a relative, a colleague, etc.), or a so-called virtual assistant whose job is to pick up someone else’s duties.

This person doesn’t have to be experienced in dropshipping: it’s only a temporary task, so it won’t be necessary for your assistant to make any important decisions and determine the vector of the business development. You simply need to make sure that the person has some computer literacy, and speaks the language of your potential buyers (in case you’re targeting some other region than your home country).

  • Hand over the online business owner responsibilities

It’s a good idea to explain the basic of dropshipping to your assistant and demonstrate how this model works. That would be more than enough to give this person a general idea of what he/she will be doing in your absence.

After this, you need to write down the sequence of actions you need to take when something happens in your store. You need to explain what to do when there’s a new order, or when a buyer asks for tracking details, or when a refund request appears, etc.

It would be great to do some preliminary training: before going on vacation, try giving your assistant the access details, and watch him/her doing your ordinary job. This way, you will closely monitor this person’s performance, and instantly notice if he is doing something the wrong way.

  • Work out the communication plan

Since you have the opportunity to dedicate some of your vacation time to your online business management, you can use this time to get in touch with your assistant.

Discuss how often you will contact him/her. What way of communication you will use (Skype, email, WhatsApp, etc.). What exact figures/actions you will be looking at, and what events should be an immediate report to an emergency.

  • Sort out the marketing strategy

Even though you have someone to keep an eye on your store while you’re away, it is a questionable idea to launch a new Facebook Ads campaign, or to negotiate with a new Instagram shoutouts partner during this period of time.

For a person unfamiliar with the specific features of your business and with the nature of your target audience, it will be quite challenging to plan and launch an appropriate marketing campaign, which is why the best decision is to put these activities on hold until you return.

If you don’t want to ‘abandon’ your social networks accounts, you can keep them active with the help of relevant plugins like Social Rabbit. After you apply the desired settings, this tool will automatically share the content of your webstore in social networks of your choice, boost your Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram accounts, and repost related content from the sources you specify.

  • Decide on the product strategy

As you know, it takes some time and dedication to find the best product for dropshipping.

Plus, a considerable experience is required to edit single product pages of the newly imported items (for example, to write consistent product descriptions, import reliable reviews, create a good-looking picture gallery, etc.).

If you’re not ready to trust your assistant with this type of responsibilities, it’s completely fine (and understandable). Don’t worry – you will update your product later, after you return.

Before you leave, make sure your product info gets automatically updated: this way, neither you nor your assistant will have to worry about any unexpected changes to your supplier’s product details.

  • Plan the technical updates schedule

In order to guarantee smooth and secure functioning of your dropshipping store, it is commonly recommended to make regular updates of all the plugins, themes, and other software elements used for the store management.

If you decide to delegate this task to your assistant as well, create a backup copy of your website in advance, and write detailed instructions on restoring the site with the help of this backup. In case something goes wrong, it will give you the opportunity to get back to the properly working store version, and make the updates yourself when you’re back.

TIP: don’t make any major changes to your store when you’re about to leave

It’s not exactly wise to start working with a totally new supplier just before you go on vacation. Or to add an item that you’ve never tested before. Or to design and upload brand new banners. You get the idea.

First of all, it’s very likely that you’ll have a limited amount of time, and won’t be able to finish what you’ve planned in a proper way.

Besides, if something goes wrong with the new seller or the new item or something, you’ll need to take an immediate action to fix it, and you certainly don’t need such a stressful situation to happen during your vacation.

I will simply relocate and keep working on my dropshipping store from the new place

It is quite a common situation: an online business owner doesn’t want to take a vacation at all. Instead, he/she chooses to move to a different country or region, and to continue working with the same intensity as usual.

Why not?

In this case, the following actions are necessary:

  • Think how long you will be offline

When you’re on the road, it’s not always possible to be online all the time.

Imagine that you’re going to have a 14-hour flight, and then drive to your new place of residence, and then unpack, and then have a rest, and then figure out the local Wi-Fi network…

If the trip itself is going to take several hours, it’s fine: most likely, you won’t need to change anything in your daily management routine.

But if you know you’ll be on the road for a whole day or two, and if you guess it will be challenging to be online while you’re travelling, it’s a good idea to put your website in the maintenance mode for this period of time (we have covered this process in the ‘super tired’ part of this article).

  • Create a online store backup

Before you take your business to a different destination, make a backup copy of the site.

The reason is simple: you can’t be sure that the Wi-Fi network in this location is fully safe. It is especially important if you’ll be working from a cafe or any other place that provides public Internet access. Even if someone hacks your store, you won’t have trouble restoring it to a previously saved version.

  • Check the access details required for online business owner

Logins, passwords, ID numbers, links, bookmarks – all these and many other tiny details are essential for your online business management. This is why it is vital to check twice if you saved all the access details in a single file on every device you’re taking with you (if one gets broken, another one will help you out).

  • Change phone number if necessary

If you’re going to a different country, consider getting a local SIM-card to handle phone calls more conveniently. In this case, it’s necessary to update the contact details on your website and social networks’ accounts.

  • Automate the business

It’s quite likely that it will take you some time to adapt to the new working and living environment.

In order not to worry about inefficient use of your time, choose and get an automated solution with the widest range of features related to the store automatization.

It will help you organize your daily management routine with the same intensity and efficiency as usual. This way, your holiday will be productive and relaxing at the same time.

  • Why build a brand?
  • How expensive and time-consuming is it to build a brand?
  • What can I expect from a personal brand?
  • How to build a brand, and which steps to take?
  • What should you avoid when building a brand?

Let’s don’t drag it out, we are starting right now!

How to build a brand: what is a brand?

how to build a brand

A brand is often misunderstood. Many people think that a brand is just a logo, and maybe a slogan. In fact, this is completely wrong. Brand creation is a global challenge.

What is a brand?

In the eyes of a customer, a brand is an image of a company.

It’s an emotional response of a person that hears your company name.

For a business owner, a brand is not just a logo. The brand includes corporate advertising, client-focused strategy, company traditions, etc. It’s through these very aspects that your potential customers decide whether to buy from you or pay attention to your competitors who are known, for example, for a higher level of customer service and so on.

What do you need a brand for?

how to build a strong brand

Do you want to run a one-day business? If not, and you are eager to develop it, conquer your own piece of the market, you couldn’t manage without branding a business. You will have to do this sooner or later. Otherwise, the market will throw you overboard.

However, if you do everything right, customers will remember your company when hearing a particular niche.

For example, which companies do you remember when talking about sportswear? Yes, sure. It’s Nike, Adidas, Reebok, etc. It’s because these companies are one of the most successful in their industry. What is more, they have a long history and pay a lot of attention to branding.

It may seem to you that it’s extremely challenging to get recognition. It refers to the fact that in most niches there are several leading companies. So, it’s hard to compete with them.

However, there is a loophole that lets even a newcomer stay near the pioneer.

Your products should stand out in the crowd.

For example, they may have exceptional quality for a low price or something like that. Indeed, products from major manufacturers are often a lot more expensive than others. This is called overpayment for a brand.

If you handle this, when speaking about your store niche, people will think not only of top-class multinational companies but your venture as well.

Sounds promising, isn’t it? So, let’s go deep down to see whether it’s difficult to create a brand.

How to build a brand: is it challenging?

In fact, building a brand is not a quick process.

Some business owners think that building a brand simply means creating a logo and a slogan.

These aren’t time-consuming tasks, and many entrepreneurs don’t make any more branding efforts after completing them.

However, branding is not about that only. It’s closely related to communication with clients, quality of service, and so on.

Actually, building a brand can be time-consuming. Nevertheless, if you do everything right, you’re highly likely to get lots of benefits on a long-term basis and hit the jackpot.

Even if you think you’re not able to cope with that, there is a way out for you! AliDropship is happy to offer you a lot of services which are to help you when running a business.

What do you get from building a brand?

You are probably wondering, is the game worth the candle? Let’s check out what you can count on if having a brand.

  • Loyalty

Do you want your own company to become extremely popular worldwide? Would you like your product or service to be instantly identified?

So, if you build a brand in the right way, your potential customers will try to look for your products only when shopping online/offline.

  • Repeat purchasing

You need to make people keep your brand name in mind. What does it mean?

If your brand products have several advantages when compared with the ones of your competitors, you can surely expect that your customers will come back to your store. In that way, it should facilitate creating your customer base.

  • Kind of insurance

Sometimes business can be fragile. However, if you pay enough attention to branding, it will come to help you. Even in the case of a crisis, or if you make some crucial mistakes, a strong brand will make it easier for you to stay afloat. Why? It’s due to the high level of customer loyalty.

  • Market capitalization

If you succeed in branding, high revenues are not the only thing you may count on. When your company’s products are in strong demand, the book value of your company is growing significantly. It means that if one day you decide to sell your business, you’re more likely to benefit from it.

  • Entering new markets

Let’s imagine that you sell sportswear. Once you realize that your business has reached a certain threshold of success, it’s necessary to think of how to expand it.

Suddenly you start selling sports footwear as well. And if your previous customers were satisfied with the quality of your products last time, they are quite likely to pay attention to your new items also. In that case, your sales are to increase substantially.

By the way, if you suddenly decide to change a niche you deal with, here are 2 more articles for you. This one describes the process of changing a niche. And this one includes the list of most profitable niches with low competition in 2022.

So, if you want to make the most of running a business, get recognition on the worldwide market, and insure yourself against economic shocks, all you need is to build a strong brand. Do you agree?

How to build a brand: 7 steps from AliDropship

Well, in order to grab the wheel and beat your rivals, you should know how to build a brand.

Here comes the list of steps from AliDropship on how to build a brand quickly and easily.

1. Find your target audience

Find your target audience

You should clearly understand who your potential customers are. So, here is a list of standard aspects you need to think of when defining your target audience:

  • Age
  • Sex
  • Lifestyle
  • Monthly income
  • Location
  • Employment, etc.

Don’t try to target almost everybody! In this case, the percentage of people converted into customers is going to be extremely small.

2. Define your brand mission

a picture showing what's behind the brand of AliDropship and how to build a brand like that

Brand messaging is one of the key aspects when talking about how to build a brand. You need to think of why your brand exists. What is it for?

Most successful brands define their brand missions in their slogans.

For example, let’s consider the tone of voice of Audi, a well-known car manufacturer. The slogan of this company is ‘Vorsprung Durch Technik’, meaning “Being Ahead through Technology”. So, they have a strong desire to point out that their primary goal is to provide their clients with cutting-edge automobiles.

Look at LG’s slogan – ‘Life’s Good’. So we can see that managers from LG set a course for making their customers’ lives a lot more convenient.

In fact, many customers are not just buying your products. They are eager to buy emotions that your products provide them with. And status.

Why do people buy smartphones from Apple? From a technical point of view, they are great but not always much different from smartphones of other manufacturers. Actually, people prefer to buy the status these devices provide them with. And in most cases, they are ready to overpay for this extra benefit.

3. Design a logo

Design brand logo

Then, start thinking about your company logo because it’s a core part of your brand. Please remember that it would be a good idea to design a logo highlighting the niche you deal with.

It’s all about the visual identity of your brand. You need to represent your brand as perfectly as possible.

So what is a logo? If you believe it’s just a particular shape, you’re not right.

A logo is fonts, color palette, background, etc.

Your logo should be unique. Otherwise, people will treat it as one of many.

Nowadays it’s very popular to use a logo presented by a certain symbol.

a picture showing how to build a brand: a logo is a must

However, you may create a mix of a logo and inscription. It’s a one-size-fits-all solution.

a picture showing how to create a brand logo

This will help to create your brand identity and broadcast it to the potential customers’ minds. And when people see your logo on a billboard or on the Internet, they will recall your company, and what it offers. This is what a strong brand stands for!

Fortunately, even if you have no experience in designing a logo, you have an opportunity to address the team of experts from AliDropship. They will be glad to help you in this and make your business journey a lot more convenient and promising.

4. Build a marketing plan

Build a marketing plan

If you want to stand out from your competitors, you must know them well. So, conduct market research and find out the following:

  • What your rivals sell
  • How they produce it
  • Which pros and cons their products have
  • What promotion channels they operate
  • Which social media platforms they use

In that case, it would be much easier for you to highlight the advantages of your products and poach your customer base.

However, if you don’t want to lose your personal time on things like that, you may look for a brand strategist.

5. Make your website user-friendly

user friendly

An easy-to-use website is a must-have for each strong brand.

When creating a website for your company, you need to keep in mind that it should meet your corporate style. When an Internet user gets into your website, they should understand that it’s a particular brand’s page. And this should happen as fast as possible.

Then, try to make your website user-friendly. Many large companies don’t focus on that. So you have a chance to fight a piece of your target audience due to the high level of customer service.

It’s also essential to make your website work fast. How to do this?

Try to optimize the images because they have a strong influence on the website loading speed. For that purpose, you may use our brand new add-on – SEO Image Optimizer. It will not only optimize image size but also let Internet users find them a lot easier.

6. Use SMM

SMM brand

So if you know how to build a brand, but have no idea of how to promote your business, turn to SMM.

Nowadays social media marketing is one of the most useful tools when speaking about business promotion. But how to use it?

First of all, turn to Step #1. Try to find out which social media platforms are the most popular within your target audience. Then, create an account in that very social network and start boosting it.

For example, if you’re going to target young people, you should choose Instagram. This social network provides you with two ads options – paid ads and Instagram shoutouts.

We strongly recommend you turn to Instagram shoutouts because it’s cheaper and more efficient.

Well, you need to post content related to your niche. By the way, to date, it’s very popular to show you how your business works inside. Instagram accounts like this collect millions of followers.

What is more, it’s a great idea to personalize your business. It means that you choose a person who is going to become an embodiment of your brand. It may be a famous person, for example, a blogger or a micro-influencer.

Or you as well.

In that case, your brand will be more recognizable.

By the way, AliDropship offers you several services related to SMM. For example, we are glad to offer you an IT solution to promote your business on four top social networks. What is more, we have several marketing services in order to help you in writing posts for Facebook and Instagram, creating traffic-generating ad and blog posts, etc.

7. Tell your brand story

To increase the brand’s credibility and customers’ interest in the products you sell, it’s a great idea to tell them about your brand story. Tell them how you started, which decisions became crucial, etc.

World brands realized this can help you build a brand. And they rely heavily on it. That’s why we know that, initially, BMW designed aircraft engines. And we know there was a time when Toyota specialized in sewing machines. And this is still reflected in the company’s logo: the usual ovals we see on Toyota’s logo are a needle and thread.

a picture showing Toyota's logo

BTW, if Toyota doesn’t focus its marketing effort on its logo, marketers from Audi always praise its logo as much as possible. Otherwise, we could overlook the fact that Audi was started as a cooperation of 4 car producers.

a picture showing the logo of Audi

Do you want your customers to always remember your company? Feel free to tell them the brand story. In that case, they will take it through the years.

8. Share feedback

Share feedback

Today most people look for feedback before buying something. That’s why you are to give them what they want!

Ask your previous customers to send their feedback, and then, post it on your website and social networks. First, you will have to offer them something for this. For example, it can be a discount for the next purchase or something else. Over time, when your brand will be popular enough, your customers will leave feedback without expecting a reward.

In practice, people are more likely to believe other clients than you. So, pay attention to the real-life feedback and provide your brand with additional promotion.

What should you avoid while building a brand?

There are some common mistakes which both newcomers and experienced businessmen make regarding the brand building. Here they come.

  • Focus on your own tastes

what to avoid when building a brand

Many people who run a business are always trying to focus on their tastes only when making a decision. This is fundamentally wrong.

Remember that you should target your potential customers. It’s they who are going to choose your products out of others. Not you.

If you are doubting your decision, do the testing, conduct research, etc.

  • Improper planning

what to avoid when building a brand

In the very beginning, we have mentioned that building a brand is not a quick process. It may take you a certain amount of time and, in some cases, money.

However, rest assured that if you do everything right, you are highly likely to succeed on a long-term basis. Over time, your brand name will start working for you.

  • Targeting everybody

what to avoid when building a brand

Don’t try to fight the world! In most cases, companies targeting everybody fails.

Many people think that by reducing the audience you shorten the level of profit. In practice, this is not right.

Moreover, when targeting everyone, your products risk losing their individuality.

So, focus on defining your target audience. It’s the key to your success.

Final thoughts: how to build a brand

It’s not that easy to build a brand. It can take some time and effort. However, the game is worth the candle because as a result, you can get extremely high profit, audience recognition, and so on!

So if you follow the AliDropship instructions you’re very likely to succeed.

Let’s go through them once again.

  • Find your target audience
  • Define your brand mission
  • Design a logo
  • Build a marketing plan
  • Create a website
  • Use SMM
  • Share feedback
  • Tell your brand story

Now count on yourself or leave it to experts, and make your business journey more convenient and profitable!

Ecommerce SEO Checklist: Is Your Dropshipping Store Perfectly Optimized?

Use our eCommerce SEO checklist to scan your store, to find out the ways for its improvement, and to boost the webstore traffic!

If you want thousands of people to find your dropshipping store and to place their orders, then, you need to make it easy for search engines to locate this site and show it to the Internet users who are looking for something similar.

The higher your webstore positions are, the sooner the users will see your webstore on the search engine results page – and who, indeed, would click on the 7th or 9th Google page while looking for something? (Only a student writing a thesis, perhaps, but that’s a whole different story).

So, as a dropshipping store owner, you have a very clear goal: to achieve the best possible result for your main store keyword. Let’s see if you have already taken all the necessary steps – our eCommerce SEO checklist will help you out with this.

Ecommerce SEO Checklist: are my keywords figured out?

Keywords are the basis, the foundation, the most crucial part of your search engine optimization strategy.

If your keywords are chosen correctly, you won’t have troubles attracting the desired audience to your store. It means that the understanding of your main and related keywords is the first step towards optimising your store for search engines.

#1 I know what’s my target keyword

The target keyword is the absolutely main keyword that will be used on every page of your store in its original or modified form. Most likely, you will further transform it and add 2-3 more words to it: this way, the target keyword will be a part of all the supportive longer keywords that are typically used for category pages and product pages.

To identify your target keyword, imagine that you need to explain your store product in 3-4 words: it will be a starting point for you.

For example, let’s suppose you’re a fan of outer space, and you decided to build your dropshipping store around this specific niche.

For a start, let’s try the following keyword: space room decor. To find out if it’s a good choice, we will use Google keyword planner.

As you can see on the screenshot above, my account isn’t active (which means it has 0 money on it and can’t yet be used to run paid ads), but anyway, it still works, and I can view the essential statistical data through it. In other words, you can simply register here as a private individual and skip all the fields that ask you to provide billing/company information. It will be enough to get access to the stats for your keywords research.

But what do we see? The planner doesn’t show any relevant keywords at all!

If you get a similar poor result, don’t worry. Take a look at the ‘Location’ and ‘Language’’ sections. In my example, the country is Vietnam, and the language is Vietnamese – but the language of the ‘space room decor’ phrase is English! No wonder the system can’t detect anything suitable.

To get correct results, specify the target country and set the necessary language – surely, it should match the language of your keyword.

This time, I’ve tried the United States and the English language: as you can see on the screenshot below, the range of results immediately got much wider.

But, the results table still isn’t perfect. By default, the system shows the keywords by relevance, but it’s much more convenient to sort them by average monthly searches.

This way, you will easily pick the keywords with the most favorable number of searches: if you want to succeed and be competitive, it’s better to concentrate on the keywords with 1K-10K monthly searches.

Let’s pick the ‘space room decor’ keyword: it describes the main store idea, and it’s easy to transform it and complement with other words, so, it will be possible to use it across the webstore. Plus, it has 100-1K monthly searches, which means this niche is  quite specific, but at the same time, not really narrow – this way, you will deal with competition just fine.

Seems like the main target keyword is finally found!

#2. I know what are my additional keywords

One keyword is not enough – it’s necessary to have a bunch of related phrases because they will be required to make other in-store amendments:

To come up with enough ideas for additional keywords, feel free to use the following strategies:

  • Look through the ideas suggested by the system

As you have already noticed, Google Keyword planner shows you a pretty impressive list of the keywords that are somehow related to your initial query, so check the suggestions that have an appropriate number of average monthly searches, and pick the ones that might be useful for your store.

If you don’t think you’ve generated enough additional options, try SEMRush service: it also shows a range of keywords related to the initial search query.

By the way, this awesome service also shows the websites that Internet users see when they search for this exact words combination.

In other words, you see your main and direct competitors – surely, it gives you the opportunity to research them and to do better 🙂

  • Think of synonyms and related objects/concepts

If you’re considering outer space to be the main store idea, you can try experimenting with related notions such as galaxy, universe, moon, planets, Milky Way, etc. Try different combinations and check them all for relevance and competitiveness – this is how you will find out whether you really can use these new word combinations as your supporting keywords.

  • Use Google Autocomplete function

If you can’t come up with any clever ideas of a good synonym, try searching the main word in Google and look at what this search engine can offer you. Maybe, you will stumble upon an idea that you have never considered before.

Here is another thing that is absolutely great about these Google suggestions: if they are shown automatically, the system already knows these concepts are related. So, chances are, Google will scan and rank your website in a more favorable way.

  • Use Google Related search field

Here is yet another way to use Google search for your benefit. On the bottom of the first search results page, you typically see something like this:

It means that people looking for outer space decor ideas also make these exact search queries, and do this commonly. In other words, Internet users type these word combinations in the Google search bar quite often, and that’s exactly what you need! By exploring this page section, you both get an idea of typically demanded products and get the opportunity to narrow down your keyword – which, obviously, makes it more specific and therefore, more likely to convert better.

  • Use AliExpress autocomplete function

Most likely, you will be using AliExpress to find suppliers and identify the best products for your dropshipping store. Surely, it is a good idea to check what exactly is offered by the sellers on the platform.

As you can see from the screenshot above, quick research of AliExpress products gives you a range of ideas not only about the existing items and possible product categories, but favorable keywords as well.

Okay, so, at this point, you have one main and super important keyword that will be featured practically everywhere, and about 10-12 supporting keywords that are also related to your business niche. Now, it’s time to put them into practice!

#3. My store structure matches my keywords

You weren’t researching all these keywords just for fun, right?

Your task now is to create a logically organized webstore structure. If the pages are arranged wisely, it is much easier for search engines to scan the website and assign a higher ranking to it.

Roughly speaking, you need to plan the hierarchy of the pages depending on their keywords:

  • Homepage is built around the main keyword
  • Every category page contains a related keyword that suits this particular category
  • Every single product page uses an even more narrow keyword that fits this exact item perfectly

The logic behind this hierarchy is simple: first, your store visitor (or the search engine scanning your website) sees a page that is based on the most searched and most demanded word combination. Then, as your guests go further and browse more and more pages, they see subcategories that have much more specific keywords (the ones that are not searched on a too frequent basis), and eventually, they come across product pages which, typically, have the keywords with the lowest amount of searches.

#4. I don’t use keywords too often

The next point in our eCommerce SEO checklist is related to being careful with how often you use a certain keyword.

It’s totally Ok to use various keywords to improve SEO for eCommerce websites. After all, you want your online store to rank as high as possible with as many keywords as you can. But what is not Ok is to use too many keywords.

This phenomenon is called “keyword stuffing”. Simply put, it’s when you use one and the same keyword again and again on the same page. One can say a page is “stuffed” with a keyword if:

  • The phrase is repeated again and again when there’s no need to do it;
  • The keywords used are not related to the topic of the page;
  • The keywords are used out of context;
  • The author inserted blocks of the same keywords.

A few years ago, such an approach would actually work pretty well. But nowadays search engines understand that you’re trying to take the easy route to promote website pages. That is to optimize pages without filing them with valuable content but stuffing them with keywords instead. And it can actually kill your previous SEO efforts!

Ecommerce SEO Checklist: is my store convenient for visitors?

Now, search engines are more or less ‘happy’ with your store, and this fact increases your chances to achieve higher positions in Google. But, apart from machines, there are also real people who visit, navigate, and use your store!

Your next step is to make sure that your store visitors are satisfied with the user experience, and SEO plays a huge role in it.

#5. It’s easy to navigate my site

If your store visitor can’t understand which page to view and what button to click, you won’t see this person making a purchase for you – a confusing store structure is one of the most common dropshipping mistakes. This is why it is crucial to make sure that:

  • The categories are arranged and filled in a logical general-to-specific order

As a rule, you start with a broad category, and fill it with more narrow subcategories. Ideally, you should put them in a decreasing order: each new subcategory is more narrow than its ‘parent’ category.

  • The names of categories and subcategories match the content of these pages

For example, it’s not a good idea to name your category ‘Outer Space Beddings’ if it contains pillow cases, bed sheets, blanket covers, curtains, and towels – it’s better to write ‘textiles’ instead of ‘beddings’.

  • All the pages are linked to one another whenever possible

When 2 pages are interlinked, it gives both of them a chance to slightly improve their rankings. Plus, it allows your store visitor to easily go from one page to other ones.

#6. I have improved the site speed

If it takes your store, let’s say, 10-15 seconds to load, this is not only really annoying for your website visitor – it is also bad for the amount of the orders placed, and unfavorable for SEO. The following steps can be taken to improve the situation:

  • Check the current loading speed

Services like SEO SiteCheckup let you run site loading speed tests for free. With their help, you can find out how long an average user has to wait until your website loads completely.

  • Switch to a better hosting

If your webstore doesn’t respond as quickly as you’d like, start the improvements with the hosting change. A good hosting solution is powerful enough to process and allow all the operations taking place on your website.

  • Reduce image sizes

Consider this: does it make any sense to upload a 1600×1200 picture on your website if you know for sure you’ll display it as an 800×600 one?

If you need large pictures to showcase tiny product details, go for them. At the same time, don’t forget to resize the more ‘basic’ pics that don’t contain super small elements. It might be a good idea to choose a unified image size and stick to it while editing in-store pictures.

#7. I have optimized videos and images

It’s not difficult to guess that users today perceive visual information much better than texts and numbers. Therefore, it’s really a good idea to use videos and images on a website, and it’s a must for an eCommerce site with dozens of products to showcase.

What you may not know is that search engines see videos and images too. And that’s the next point in our eCommerce SEO checklist.

When optimizing videos and images, pay attention to the following.

  • Name files properly

You may think that it doesn’t really matter how you name a file as long as it works properly of the page. So, it’s Ok to name it 0123.jpg, for example. Well, that’s wrong!

Whenever you upload a file, you do so along with its name. And search engines actually see it. Therefore, we recommend naming them in a way that describes what’s in the picture or on the video.

  • Write ALT texts

All videos and images have ALT features – short texts that describe what’s there. These texts can be read by both users and search engines. If written properly, there’s a chance your product image, for example, will show up in someone’s search results.

When writing an ALT text, try describing what you see. For example, you can write: “An image of a red and green Christmas-themed sweater with a reindeer on the front side”.

  • Compress files as much as possible

I’ve already mentioned this in the previous section of our eCommerce SEO checklist. You should improve your site’s speed as much as possible, which is why you should compress all files including videos and images. Just make sure their quality doesn’t drop too much. Remember, they should look on the screen, and there’s no point improving the speed if the quality of the images will scare away potential customers.

Ecommerce SEO Checklist: are my store elements SEO-friendly?

When it comes to optimizing separate pages, surely, there are some universal rules for all of them. Whichever page you’re improving, you will definitely take several identical steps:

  • Set the focus keyword
  • Include the keyword in the page URL
  • Make sure that the keyword is also mentioned in the page title
  • Write a long meta description (up to 320 characters) that contains the same keyword
  • Make sure that there is at least 1 subheading on the page that uses the same keyword
  • Make sure that only one subheading on a page is marked as H1 (the most important subheading type) and also contains the page keyword

Take a look at the example screenshot below.

This is the section that you typically see at the bottom of every page of your store when you are logged in.

Here, you start with specifying the focus keyword: write the phrase you’ve chosen for this page.

Then, click the ‘Edit snippet’ button to change the page URL, Title, and Meta description.

Make sure that all the elements contain the keyword you have set for this page, save your progress, and don’t forget to check the ‘Analysis’ section: it gives you hints on the ways to improve the page further.

These steps are necessary for any and every page on your website – still, some pages require very special treatment and some additional efforts. Let’s go through them!

#8. I have optimized the Home Page

Different SEO gurus have varying opinions on home page optimization. Still, we can recommend taking these 2 actions:

  • In your focus keyword for the home page, write the maint target keyword AND your brand/store name – divide them with a comma
  • While writing texts for this page, make sure they are valuable for your store visitor: explain who you are, what you sell, and how your buyer will benefit from you. The example on the banner below will give you a general idea.

#9. I have optimized Category pages

Category pages are built around more specific keywords – so, don’t forget to make them featured in the on-page text and subheadings!

The example below is not a really good one (the text should be much longer), but still, it gives you a general idea of what you should do.

Ideally, you should create a text containing at least 300 words, but the more the better. If the category contains different sub-categories of products, it’s a good opportunity to use a number of additional keywords. This is how you can cover more potential search queries that will lead users to this page.

On top of that, such texts let you show your expertise in this particular field of knowledge. If possible, don’t simply tell site visitors what kind of products they can find here, how long delivery will take, and so on.

Use this opportunity to tell something important to people interested in these products. If the category page contains home improvement tools, tell visitors how to use them (in general of course). If you sell pet feeders, explain what types there are and what pros and cons each of them has.

You don’t have to go into detail, but it’s a good idea to provide valuable information for potential buyers who may lack knowledge in this particular area.

#10. I have optimized Product pages

Typically, a product page is a place that influences buying decisions most heavily.

Plus, it is also the page with the most specific and narrowly targeted keywords that are likely to show the best conversion rate among all the other page types.

This is why we strongly recommend using this guide on creating perfect product page content both in terms of SEO and from the point of view of increasing your buyers’ trust towards the store (by the way, these instructions on using social proof tools can be quite useful, too).

Here you want to share as many details as possible. On the one hand, this is where customers want to see all the specifications: size, color, weight, materials the item is made of, etc. Don’t forget to use the measurement system used in the country of your target audience. If you sell to the US, use feet, inches, etc. Selling to Europe, use meters, kilograms, etc.

If possible, describe the benefits of using the product. While the specifications can be considered as the product’s features, benefits must tell a potential buyer about how his or her life will improve after purchasing the item.

And don’t be afraid to insert a promotional text before the specifications, especially if you sell a product with purely emotional value and no useful features.

#11. I have optimized my internal site search

Imagine a person visits your website looking for a product. He/she gets to a product page but doesn’t really like this particular item. The visitor wants to take a look at similar goods on your site and goes to the search bar. And doesn’t find anything, which makes them leave immediately.

The problem is you did have the item that the visitor was looking for, except they couldn’t find it because you didn’t optimize your internal site search properly.

About 30% of eCommerce customers use internal site search. Moreover, such visitors are 2-3 times more likely to convert. So, taking good care of this part of your website is very important.

When people search for something, they often misspell or use synonyms or abbreviations. Keep that in mind when optimizing your internal search. A good idea is to use Google Analytics to understand what keywords site visitors use. But it’ll take time before you can gather this kind of statistic.

Alternatively, you can come up with your own ideas before launching your dropshipping store.

#12. I have resolved 404 errors and warnings

Another important thing in our eCommerce SEO checklist is to make sure your site won’t show error messages to visitors – especially 404 messages.

404 error means the site page doesn’t exist anymore. I’m sure you’ve seen such pages before. I’m also pretty sure it wasn’t a good experience. After all, if something is missing on a website, there’s definitely something wrong with it.

Any kind of error message will most likely arouse mistrust, which will lead to profit losses. So, it’s important to resolve these issues.

404 errors can occur for a number of reasons:

  • After changing the permalink of one of your pages;
  • After removing content from your webstore;
  • A brokent or incorrect link that leads to another websote.

The easiest way to fix it (and never show this message to site visitors) is to use a 301 redirect. This type of redirect means that a page “moved permanently” to another place and is recommended for SEO.

Whenever a user or search engine tries to open a certain URL, the 301 will automatically redirect them to a new URL.

Now, as you completed this eCommerce SEO checklist, you know how to make sure that your dropshipping store is perfectly optimized to attract tons of buyers and generate impressive profits. Take the action and benefit from the long-term results!

Christmas 2021 Promotion Ideas: A Handy Calendar For Your Online Store

Christmas 2021 is just around the corner! People around the world start discussing gift ideas and arranging their Christmas trees. What does it mean for your dropshipping business?

As an owner of an online store, you can enjoy this pre-holiday period because during the days of Christmas sale you can make much HIGHER PROFITS!

No matter who the average customers in your target audience are, it’s highly likely that they:

  • Celebrate Christmas day in one way or another
  • Do online shopping to get ready for this religious and cultural holiday
  • Expect stores to launch Christmas sales and special offers during this time of year

In other words, it’s just the time to get your store ready for the upcoming holiday, so let’s make a tiny useful Christmas promotion calendar for 2021 which you can use during this whole month.

Why is it necessary to start your Christmas marketing campaign in October 2021?

Why you should start a Christmas promotion campaign in October

Because you do online business!

Follow this logic:

  • Internet users are shopping for Christmas cards and gifts or home decorations
  • They visit your landing page
  • Moving from there on, they read your gift guides, like something in your store, and make a purchase
  • They expect to receive their orders just in time for Christmas
  • You transfer these orders to AliExpress sellers manually or with the help of automatic solutions
  • The sellers process your orders and arrange the shipping
  • The future of this package now fully depends on the postal service, customs, and all that.

Do you see what the challenge is?

To get the package in time for Christmas, it’s necessary to place the order 1-1,5 months ahead.

Of course, there are some people who prefer buying gifts at the last minute. But if a customer wants to receive the order before December 20th, it’s better to make a purchase before the second week of November.

It gives you a whole month to plan forward all your marketing efforts, and 2 weeks to put them into practice.

Remember that November 11th is the day of Global Shopping Festival on AliExpress!

It’s the time when AliExpress sellers are flooded with orders, and shopping on the platform reaches unbelievable heights all over the world. This is the time when global payment systems may become overloaded and have glitches. Moreover, at this moment postal services and customs handle countless packages. Ideally, you need to make your store visitors place an order BEFORE this crazy time!

Now it’s time to share a few Christmas marketing ideas. Follow this handy calendar and feel no stress preparing for the festive season!

Christmas promotion calendar 2021 from the AliDropship marketing team

Christmas Promotion calendar ideas

October 4th – October 10th

Look at your store carefully.

Use this checklist to plan your activities for this month.

Write down the dates when you can do the following:

  • Create new design elements

Header images, banners, a cover image for the Facebook page and other social networks accounts, templates for Christmas packaging/flyers, etc. require your attention!

What will be the general style of all the new elements you add? Will you do it all yourself or order these elements from someone else? How much money can you spend on them? Will you ask your AliExpress suppliers to print out your leaflets/cards/flyers and include them in the packages? How much will it cost and how soon do you need to email the designs to your suppliers?

  • Analyze the best selling products in your store and think about how you can benefit from them

What do people buy most often from you? How can you further promote these products during the pre-holiday season? Will you post them in a gallery on the home page? Will you set up a cross-sell option?

  • Add new products to the store and make the product pages look attractive

What are the hottest Christmas trends? Which products can you add to make a more diverse and appealing product offer in your store? What can you write in item descriptions to make the product pages more SEO-friendly? Do all the older product pages in your store look as perfect as the newer ones?

  • Rethink the prices

When and how will you change the prices? Will you offer coupons for some (or all) of the products? Will you create special holiday packages combining several items at a lower cost?

  • Write blog posts

Will you be writing articles for your blog? How often? On which topics? What keywords should you use?

  • Plan your Instagram promotion

Which of the free Instagram promotion techniques can you try out during the season? Will you do shoutouts? Will you try Instagram Ads? How much money are you ready to spend on paid Instagram promotion?

  • Plan your Facebook promotion

Will you promote your store on Facebook? Which groups will you use for the promotion? Will you use the Social Rabbit plugin or other automated solutions?

  • Check if you have all the necessary payment gateways integrated

Can you accept both credit cards and PayPal payments in your store? Is it necessary to add an extra payment option?

  • Check the current Customer Policy information

Did you provide the full information about your returns and exchange policy? Did you explain the shipping time? Have you listed all the contacts suitable for getting in touch with you?

October 11th – October 31st

Okay, now you have the full 3 weeks to turn your dreams into reality!

Stick to the Christmas promotion ideas and the plan you’ve made for yourself, but don’t worry if you can’t make it all in time.

Use these 3 weeks to create templates and drafts for:

  • Design elements
  • Old and new product descriptions
  • Blog posts
  • Advertisements in social media

Also, this is the perfect time to:

  • Add other payment gateways if necessary
  • Update the contact information and all the details related to your customer policy

Don’t forget that it’s still a bit too early to actually launch your Christmas promotion campaign – it’s the season of Halloween advertising, instead!

November 1st – November 14th

Halloween is over, so you are now free to start your Christmas 2021 marketing campaign!

Now you can start adding your special design elements, publishing the newest items, posting the holiday articles in your blog, running the advertising campaigns on social networks, and, in general, doing all the things you’ve been planning during the last 3 weeks.

Don’t do it all at once!

First, it’s physically impossible, so you’ll quickly get tired and frustrated.

Second, it’s much easier to keep your visitors and followers entertained when you have a tiny surprise for them every day.

Try to stretch your pre-Christmas promotion campaign across all these 2 weeks, and your audience will be motivated to follow the news and updates.

Of course, it’s not necessary to remove all your beautiful website design elements when 12 days of Christmas have gone! Keep these lovely Christmas-themed elements until December 25, and after that…start getting ready for another holiday!

Is Your Online Store Ready For Ecommerce Holiday Season: The All-Inclusive Checklist

The secret behind proper holiday ecommerce management is to have your business prepared for the high season. Here are some tips we are happy to offer you!

We all love holidays.

There are tons of reasons for it: they create a cozy and warm atmosphere of homely comfort, they bring our happiest childhood memories back, they unite us with our dearest and nearest, and… well, you got the idea.

At the same time, as an owner of an ecommerce business, you get one more awesome reason to be fond of holidays: they generate more sales in your online store and bring you higher profits.

Just think about these numbers: in 2020, in the United States alone, online shopping amounted to $188.2 billion, which is 32.2% more than in 2019. During Black Friday and Cyber Monday, online sales reached $100 billion for the first time!

Can you imagine?

$188 billion!

As an owner of an online business, you can join other online retailers and enjoy this booming market, too! Just think of the lovely profit your store can get during this time.

You don’t have your own store yet? No problem! It’s the perfect time to order a ready-made dropshipping store or get an exact copy of a successful business with a proven profitability potential.

And, to make your stole fully ready for the upcoming ecommerce holidays, follow this simple list of actions.

Let’s get started!

Holiday ecommerce management: choosing the holiday

Prepare for the holiday season in advance and first of all pick the holiday

If you know your target audience, you most likely know what holidays these people celebrate.

These might be:

  • National holidays (the Independence Day, Memorial Day, birthdays of the most famous national leaders, etc.);
  • Religious holidays (Orthodox Christmas, Hanukkah, Holi, Eid al-Fitr, etc.);
  • Non-official holidays (April Fools, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, etc.)

Remember that cultural and religious traditions are very different across the globe. Make sure that the holiday you’ve chosen is actually important for your target audience!

Also, don’t try to cover all of them at once. For a start, pick 1-2 most significant holidays.

Preparing your holiday ecommerce action plan

Holidays in ecommerce: come up with an action plan

No matter what holiday you chose, it’s necessary to start your planning long before the big day.

People who buy online expect to get their orders just in time for the holiday. So, about 3 months in advance is the perfect time to start.

As an experiment, we went to Google Trends to see the latest Christmas-related queries. The search terms we tried were “Christmas presents”, “Christmas gifts”, “Christmas shopping” and “Christmas decorations”.

We took the period from June 6th to September 6th, and you can see the results on the graph below:

Holiday Ecommerce: demand for thematic products starts growing 3 month before the holiday itself

Even though there are 3 months left before Christmas, people are already looking for gifts and decorations!

That’s really logical: first of all, they want to take their time and carefully research the market offers before all this pre-holiday rush and hysteria.

Secondly, they want to be sure that their packages will be delivered in due time. Indeed, what’s the use of Christmas stockings if they come to you at the beginning of January?

Online sellers, postal offices, customs – everyone is really busy when people start ordering holiday gifts. Just imagine how many orders AliExpress sellers have to handle during this season! You can learn from the example of Mousslim who shared his success story with us: he opened his store during the Chinese New Year and had to deal with lots of challenges, but luckily, it all ended not so badly.

What does it mean for you as an owner of a dropshipping store?

You must convince your store visitors to make a purchase now – long before the upcoming events – to stay away from all the troubles with undelivered packages and delayed shipments.

This is why you need to create a calendar with holiday events and an action plan you should follow during this overly busy holiday season.

In this plan, try to schedule the following:

  • Promotional activities
  • Creating and uploading new design elements to your website
  • Updates of the product range
  • Special price offers
  • Technical improvements of the website
  • Introduction of new customer service standards

Does it seem unclear?

Let’s go through every paragraph!

Launching holiday ecommerce promotions

Prepare promotional materials before launching a seasonal sale

So, your main goal is to motivate people to make a purchase right now, without wasting any time.

All your marketing efforts should be aimed at it.

In your promotions calendar, schedule the following:

  • Blog articles

If you run a blog in your dropshipping store (and it’s a really good idea), think of 3-4 interesting article ideas that are related to this holiday, or to this season, or to spending time with your friends and relatives…

Important note: don’t forget to mention that it’s essential to start pre-holiday shopping RIGHT NOW!

Plan the schedule of the articles so that you can publish them regularly, but not too often.

  • Emails

If you run your dropshipping store with the help of the AliDropship plugin, you can make good use of its wonderful feature – the automatic generation of email lists.

You can reach your potential customers through emails to tell them about additions to your website, your newest products available for the season, your special offers for the holiday, etc. It’s also a good idea to provide them with special secret coupon codes if you are going to have any.

Don’t forget to wish your readers a happy holiday time!

  • Social network promotions

Whatever strategy you use to promote your store on social media (Instagram shoutouts, promotion in Facebook groups, Instagram ads, etc.), it’s important to remember: everyone else is running their promotions now, too.

You need to be different, and you need to be memorable.

In this case, automated dropshipping solutions can make a huge difference. Just imagine what an incredible efficiency you can achieve if you run integrated campaigns launched with the help of the Social Rabbit plugin! They will save you tons of time (and you need this time to communicate with your customers during this busy period), and they will give you a good result in terms of audience coverage.

  • Google Ads campaigns

Do you remember our step-by-step guides on Google AdWords audit and Google Ads remarketing?

When holidays are right around the corner, people use Google more often than ever to look for party ideas, gifts available, decoration inspirations, and so on. So, why not use this awesome opportunity and try launching a special pre-holiday campaign?

Updating design

It's a good idea to update the design of your online store for the upcoming holidays

Spice up your web store with lovely new design elements to create a special festive spirit and raise the conversion rates!

A thematic header image on your homepage can make a difference and grab the attention of your store visitors the very second they enter your website.

If you’ve introduced a special offer for a range of your products, or if there is a coupon, or if there are upcoming holiday sales, it’s a great idea to make a thematic holiday banner with this information and put it on your website.

Don’t forget that you can also update the cover image on the Facebook page of your store! It will help you achieve better results for your Facebook promotions.

Reviewing ecommerce products for the holiday season

Holiday ecommerce: a gift box

Are all of your products available now? The AliDropship plugin automatically connects with AliExpress sellers to update the stock information, so make sure you won’t disappoint your clients.

Are your top sellers clearly visible? You can choose several of the best-selling products and show them on your home page to get people interested immediately.

Do you want to improve your product offer? Use these tips to find and select the hottest items that will be the perfect holiday addition to your store. Before you start importing items to your store directly from AliExpress, make sure that you’ve made a good choice – here’s our advice on finding the best products for dropshipping on AliExpress.

Do the product pages look appealing for your potential buyers? Make sure you’re only posting top quality pictures and the products’ names don’t look funny or weird. Also, pay attention to the products’ descriptions – mention what a great gift this product will be for the upcoming holiday and try to make this text SEO-friendly.

Do you want to make customized crafted package wrappings or gift cards for the occasion? In dropshipping, it’s tricky but possible. Create the design of these elements in advance and contact your AliExpress sellers to explain what you want them to do when dispatching your orders. This will cost you a little extra, but if you want to make an impression on your buyers, that’s a good idea.

Introducing special price offers

Holidays in ecommerce: offer your clients special prices

It doesn’t matter what pricing strategy you usually use for your dropshipping store – it’s almost holiday time!

People expect to see sales, promotions and special offers. Why not give them what they want?

Here’s an instruction on how to create discounts in your dropshipping store with the help of the AliDropship plugin.

Improving the website

Get Your Drop Shipping Store Ready For Holidays By Improving Your Site's Performance

When we’re talking about pre-holiday shopping, it’s essential to remember: it’s mostly impulse purchases.

Nothing should stop people from making an order from your website if something caught their attention!

This is why you first of all need to make sure that your web store pages load quickly. If they are too slow, no one will wait long enough. Think of reducing the size of images, for a start.

Then, make sure that your website can be accessed from any type of device – mobile shopping gets more and more popular these days, so pay attention to this. Are the texts written in readable fonts and clear colors? Are the buttons big and bright enough?

Don’t forget to integrate multiple payment options into your website – customers are different, and their payment preferences may differ as well. It might be useful for you to read our instructions on connecting PayPal payment option.

Upgrading customer policies

Upgrade your customer policy before launching a holiday sale

During the busy holiday season, people are rushing to order stuff online, and they want to make sure they are buying top quality items.

Surely, no one wants to mistakenly buy clothes of the wrong size or something like that!

This is why you need to be ready to answer TONS of clients’ questions during this period of time. By the way, did you list all suitable ways to contact you (via Skype, live chat, email, WhatsApp, etc.)?

To make it more convenient to cover all the possible questions, you can create a separate page dedicated to your return and exchange policy, and also write about the shipping time. Don’t be scared of returns and refunds – according to AliExpress sellers themselves, they are ready to negotiate with you in case something goes wrong, so you’ll find a satisfactory solution.

You may find inspiration in the success story of Zappos, the former dropshipping store that now dominates the US shoe market. The company doesn’t view returns and refunds as something extraordinary. It’s all about creating customers’ loyalty, you know?

Now, we guess the checklist is over! Go through the list and think what you can improve in your store to make it ready for the upcoming holidays.

Holidays in ecommerce are a tough time but also the most lucrative! And don’t forget: if you have enough time for your holiday preparations, this season is the perfect time to start your own dropshipping business!

How To Come Up With A Dropshipping Store Name

So, you want to launch a dropshipping business to start making money online. That’s great, but do you already know how to name it? In this article, we’re going to talk about how to come up with a good dropshipping store name and why it matters.

Why your dropshipping store’s name matters

What’s in a name?

That’s what might cross your mind when choosing one for your online store.

It can’t be a big deal when you’ve got a much bigger fish to fry, can it?

Indeed, at first glance, naming your dropshipping store seems to be too petty to take it seriously.

You have things like social media promotion, customer service and a lot of other tasks on your plate. Your success lies in taking care of them, doesn’t it?

Well, yeah…but here’s the deal. You can’t make bricks without straw.

I doubt that Nike would be as fortunate as it is if it’d been named “Sport clothing company 23” or something. The name is a part of Nike’s success.

Dropshipping is a competitive business field. To win the competition, you need to stand out from the others.

In other words, you should create your brand identity. And your store name plays a significant part in this task.

Therefore, you need to make a point of choosing the right one. And the next tips are going to let you pull this off.

5 tips on how to come up with a brand name

1. Make it short and memorable

Pepsi, Starbucks, Apple, Google, Reebok…

All these companies have short and catchy names. Once you’ve heard them, they stick in your memory for a long time.

So, if you think up something of that sort for your dropshipping store, you’ll make a great dent in creating your brand identity.

Your advertisement will definitely catch customer’s eye, and they won’t misspell your store’s name while looking for it on the Internet.

There are several ways you could employ to come up with a short and memorable name.

  • Pick something ordinary

You can follow the example of Steve Jobs. He picked “Apple” as a name for his company just because he was on a fruitarian diet at the moment. A similar strategy was chosen by Jeff Bezos: he simply named his online store after the Amazon river.

The point is to choose an ordinary but catchy word and put it to use.

  • Distort a regular word

Another way to make up a name for your dropshipping store is to distort a normal word. For instance, a famous freelance platform Fiverr just added one more “r” to “Fiver” to get it done. Google got its name by twisting the word “googol”. And Cisco was made by removing “San Fran” from “San Francisco”.

  • Use abbreviations

To create a brand name, one can use abbreviations or acronyms. For example, BMW stands for “Bayerische Motoren Werke”, or “Bavarian Motor Works”. Simple, right? Often company founders name their businesses after their own surnames. This way, Mars and Murrie came up with M&M’s.

You can also combine several words in one to create a memorable name for your online store. Probably, the most famous example of using this tactic is Adidas company. Its founder, Adolf Dassler, whose nickname was Adi, just mixed his first and second names to create the title.

Actually, this practice is widespread in business. IBM’s title is just the first letters of “International Business Machines”, Intel is short for “integrated electronics” and so on.

  • Use Alterations

If you want your dropshipping store’s name to contain more than one word, you can use alliteration to make it catchy. For example, Paramount Pictures, Coca-Cola, Best Buy, American Airlines, etc.

  • Use the names of mythological characters, creatures, and places

For inspiration, one can use a dictionary of mythology. There are thousands of names, so it’s a great way to come up with store name ideas! And many business owners named their brands after gods, heroes, legendary places, etc. For example, Pegasus Expedite Company was named after the mythological winged horse.

So, you’ve got enough options to employ to come up with your business name. However, you should keep in mind that using more than two words for your business name isn’t the best idea. Ideally, you need only one that strikes a chord.

2. Make sure your dropshipping store’s name is unique

Standing out from your competitors is vital in dropshipping.

If your online store has a name that is similar to your rival’s one, customers could easily mix you up. This way, you may lose tons of clients.

Not the best prospects, right?

Let alone the fact that you might face some legal consequences if you unwittingly pick some copyrighted name.

Thus, you need to carry out some market research before making up your mind about your dropshipping store’s name. You should make sure that it’s unique.

3. Don’t curse, please

Have you heard about BiC company?

Highly likely, you have. You must have come across the pencils and razors made by this French firm.

But, you may not know that the company’s founder Marcel Bich decided not to rack his brain much and named it after himself.

You might be wondering – where is the “h” letter?

Well, he made the decision to leave it out.

The reason is the English language.

He wanted to create an international company. And the last name of BiC’s founder didn’t sound well in English.

You could easily confuse it with a rude English word, although its spelling is a bit different.

Now, this looks reasonable, doesn’t it?

Dropshipping is an international business model. So, you need to make sure that your dropshipping store name doesn’t have an offensive or confusing meaning in foreign languages.

You don’t need to look into each existing language in the world. Take 8 or 10 the most spoken ones such as English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and so on.

It’s also important to make sure the end result cannot be read some other way.

For example, there’s nothing wrong with the words ‘bay’ and ‘therapist’. But when combined into a domain name, people may read it this way: See what I mean?

So, make sure to carefully analyze your dropshipping store’s name from every point of view.

4. Don’t forget about your domain name

Who doesn’t know eBay?

It’s hard to find a single person who is unaware of it. This company is famous worldwide and its name is short and memorable.

Did you ever wonder why? How come its founders ended up with eBay?

I can tell you.

Actually, we could have Echo Bay instead. That was the name eBay’s owners came up with in the first place. As for me, it was good also.

However, the domain name “” was occupied. So, they changed “Echo Bay” to “eBay” to take the domain name that matched the company’s title.

What you can learn from this story?

It’s important to choose a domain name that is the same or, at least, very close to your store’s actual one. Otherwise, this looks illogical and fishy to customers.

Besides, with a domain name similar to your brand name, you can expect your website to perform better in terms of search engine optimization. Sometimes people don’t even look at the URL of the site they visit. So, if a potential buyer remembers your brand name, he/she will probably search your site by this name. And if your domain name is completely different from it, they will never find you.

Moreover, when making a store name list, you can base your decision on SEO!

5. Try to make your dropshipping store’s name SEO-friendly

Getting traffic is crucial in dropshipping.

And SEO is a perfect tool to drive free organic traffic to your online store. If your website is SEO-friendly and your product pages are properly optimized, it’s going to pay off really soon.

But, if you manage to work your keywords into your store’s name, it will give you great advantages. It’s especially beneficial if you’re a newcomer to dropshipping.

However, it may be tricky to think up an SEO-friendly title. For example, ‘’ would make a great domain, but it’s already occupied.

In this case, it’s important to mention one thing. If your online store’s name turns out to be SEO-friendly but at the same time it sounds weird and off-putting, you’d better get along without the keywords for your title.

A lifehack to choose a name for your dropshipping store

Did any ideas on your store’s name come to your mind while reading these tips?

If not, there is a way to help you get the process off the ground.

You can use one of the business name generators to come up with a name for your dropshipping store.

Just think of some words related to your business. Then type them in the search field on the page of a generator you choose and click “Generate”.

You’ll see many options that you can use as your store’s name.

BNG - business name generator

The company name generators you could make use of are BNG and Name Mesh. Yet, you can find one on your own. There are plenty of them on the Internet.

However, while using name generators, you shouldn’t fully rely on them.

You need to pick the options that live up to the tips we’ve listed for you.

Building your brand identity is essential for your future success. Making up a dropshipping store name is the first step on your way to pull it off. Follow the tips we’ve listed for you and this task won’t be a big problem for you. If you’ve got some questions, feel free to leave them in the comment section below. We’re always ready to answer.

SEO For Ecommerce Websites: Tips For Every Business Stage

Most likely, you saw numerous guides on SEO for eCommerce websites. Most likely, they look like rocket science for you. All new product and category pages in your online store should be SEO optimized according to these rules and guides – so stay tuned! So, you can’t leave this area unattended. Believe us, you can easily optimize your eCommerce website with your bare hands!

In this article, we will explain difficult things in simple words so that you won’t struggle with eCommerce search engine optimization anymore.

Why is SEO important for your eCommerce website?

The importance of SEO for ecommerce websites

SEO, or search engine optimization, is vital for an eCommerce business. The key to the success of your store is the customers: the more visitors you attract to the site, the more purchases they will make, and the bigger profit you will get.

So the question is how can Internet users locate your web store?

And that’s exactly when SEO comes to play.

Obviously, you can spread the word about your store through social networks. Facebook and Instagram work wonders – you can learn about it from our own experience and from the success stories of our clients.

But still, what do you do when you need to find something online? You look it up in Google! You look through several pages that are shown first, and you rarely even go to the second page, much less the third and further pages.

Therefore, as a store owner, you need to put your website as high on the search engine results page as possible. What can you do to make it happen?

SEO for eCommerce websites at the preparatory stage

First step of optimizing your online store for search engines

Ideally, your SEO efforts should start the exact moment you decided to launch an eCommerce business.

We’re talking about the niche choice now.

As you probably remember, we have already covered this aspect before. In short, you need to make sure that the niche itself will be good for SEO. It is one of the most important aspects of choosing a niche for an eCommerce business because it lays at the foundation of everything you will do further.

If the niche itself has limited potential in terms of SEO, you will have a really hard time trying to make your store popular. So research our guide on SEO for eCommerce websites carefully before picking a niche!

Technical SEO checklist for the preparatory stage:

  1. Pick and buy a domain name that is related to your store niche. Make sure that your store name is not similar to an already existing brand.
  2. Make sure your website has an SSL Certificate and you’re using high-quality hosting from a trusted provider. If your store is powered by AliDropship hosting, you’ve got it covered already!
  3. Check if your website has robots.txt and sitemap.xml. If it doesn’t, generate these elements with the help of the plugin (Google XML Sitemaps) or manually.
  4. Pick a reliable CMS (content management system) and a proper store theme optimized for both desktop and mobile devices. The store theme will define the website working speed, and therefore, user experience and your store position on Google. For your convenience, all AliDropship themes are mobile-friendly and user-oriented, which makes them a great choice for dropshipping store owners. If you need to check the speed of a ready website, feel free to use the PageSpeed Insights service.
  5. Add your store to Google Analytics and Google Search Console to track visitors, see how much time they spend on your website, figure out errors, monitor clicks/impressions, and more.
  6. Make sure that while your website is under development, it’s not available for search engines indexing. To do this on WordPress, you simply need to put a tick here: Settings->Reading->Search Engine Visibility. Don’t forget to remove it to make your store visible to search engines when it’s ready!
  7. Check what your 404 page looks like.

Ecommerce SEO at the development stage of your website

Ecommerce SEO at the development stage

Similarly, you need to start thinking about eCommerce SEO at the very first stages of designing and developing your website.

The reason is the better your website is structured and organized the easier it is for search engines to scan it. If you put your category pages and product pages too far away from the home page, it will:

  • Disorient search engines – they won’t be able to reach and scan these well-hidden pages, so you won’t get as high rankings as you could have;
  • Make your store visitors frustrated – normally, it should take clients not more than 3 clicks to reach any product page from the main page.

It means that the first step in developing your future dropshipping store is thinking out its structure. Your eCommerce website needs to be organized logically, clearly and quite simply. And to achieve that, you need to start with choosing the most relevant keywords.

SEO for eCommerce websites: choosing keywords

Why would you need to start with keywords?

Well, because you will use them to create and name product categories.

Most likely, you already have one or two most relevant keywords at this point – you generated them while you evaluated the SEO potential of your niche.

Obviously, 1-2 keywords are not enough. You will need much more of them to:

  • Make a logical structure for your eCommerce site;
  • Select products and product categories that are the most favorable for SEO;
  • Pick good names for every category.

So where can you get enough ideas for keywords?

  • Go to Wikipedia. Quite surprisingly, it is possible to find something interesting there for some types of products. For example, let’s say you are going to sell pearls jewelry and decorations. What does Wikipedia say about that?

A Wikipedia page used to find keywords for SEO

As you can see, you can pick at least 5 keywords from the Contents section alone: freshwater pearls, saltwater pearls, natural pearls, cultured pearls, and imitation pearls. A great start!

Of course, it won’t work with each and every niche or product. Still, check it quickly at the beginning of your search to be 100% sure you didn’t miss anything.

  • Use the Google Autocomplete function. For example, you want to sell items made of wool – great idea! Let’s see what we can get from the search engine:

The Google autocomplete function used to find keywords ideas

As you can see, Google can show you some really nice ideas – maybe you didn’t even think about them at first! If they are shown automatically, it means that people search them quite often, and that’s exactly what you need.

  • Use Related search and People also ask fields. Again, let’s take the wool as an example:

Google's Related search function used to find keywords for SEOUsing Google's People also ask function to find keywords for SEO

It is clear from this example that people who search “100% wool” are also looking specifically for wool yarn, wool fabrics, etc. Therefore, this is how you can narrow down your keywords choice and make them more specific.

  • Use the AliExpress auto-complete function. If you’re going to use AliExpress to select suppliers for your store, it is logical to check what kinds of items are offered there. Plus, it will give you a range of ideas about keywords:

AliExpress' autocomplete function used to find keywords for SEO

Using Google keyword planner to optimize an ecommerce website for search engines

You will see how often people look for this or that keyword:

Selecting keywords in Google keyword planner

Don’t limit yourself only to keywords that have the biggest amount of searches! Keywords with medium and low frequency can be a good addition because they are less competitive. Also, they are more specific: it means that they can bring you more relevant visitors who were looking EXACTLY for this words combination. Therefore, the conversion rate will be higher.

Most of such keywords are the so-called long-tail keywords. They consist of more words and are more specific than general search queries. For example, “Buy coffee machine filters online” is a good example of a long-tail keyword. It will hardly attract a lot of visitors to your website. But on the other hand, such visitors will be much more motivated to buy the product.

Long-tail keywords in Google keyword planner

SEO for eCommerce websites: site architecture

Okay, now you have several keywords that are relevant and interesting for your potential buyers. Great! Now it’s time to get to the site architecture.

(Please note that you need to research this part only if you are making your own store yourself. In case you are going to purchase a custom store, you don’t even have to worry about it – everything will be professionally done by qualified specialists).

Generally speaking, when you deal with site architecture, you need to make it as plain and clear as possible. If your site structure is good enough, it will be easy for search engines to access and index the content, which means you will get higher rankings.

What is also important, an understandable site structure is valuable for your clients. And Google takes this into account when it ranks websites! Google analyzes the behavior of the people who visit your site. If your visitors don’t stay long in your online store, and if they don’t want to click any store links to learn more about your offers, Google doesn’t attribute a high rank to this site. And to make your potential customers more interested in staying on your site longer, you can:

  • Build your site architecture around the keywords you previously found. To do this, you need to understand what search queries can lead people to your site, and what exactly people can search when they already are visiting your store.
  • Make a logical hierarchy. By using the most relevant keywords, you need to create an architecture that helps both store visitors and search engines easily find their way to product pages from the home page. Create 4-10 unique product categories and divide each of them into several subcategories. Don’t try to make too many!
  • Think about internal linking. Every page in your web store should have at least one link to another page within the site and at least one link from another in-site destination. It is important because search engines use such links to understand which pages on the site are valuable and how you can get there. The structure you have created should be suitable for internal linking.

To improve the navigation within your web store and enhance your customers’ experience (and also to get higher rankings), you can also implement some additional elements. For example, let’s look at the so-called breadcrumbs:

The so-called breadcrumbs on the webpage of an online store

Breadcrumbs are a supporting navigation element that helps both your store visitors and search engines understand where they are now and how they can find their way back. Breadcrumbs are commonly used on websites with a large number of products organized in a hierarchical way – that’s just what you need!

SEO for eCommerce product pages: editing stage

Okay, here comes the part that you will DEFINITELY be doing yourself. Every new product page on your store should be SEO-friendly, so stay tuned and follow these rules and guides to optimize all of them!

We have already discussed the changes you can make to a product page to make your customers more interested and to increase their conversion rate. Still, there are much more things you can do!

For eCommerce stores, the on-page SEO aspect is especially relevant. When you add seller’s items to your store, you automatically import all the product descriptions, photos, reviews, etc., which means your store content is not unique. And if you fix this, you can boost your store performance without any additional expenses.

So what do you need to do for eCommerce product page optimization: 7 steps

1) Edit product names

The names of AliExpress items are long, confusing, and sometimes they don’t even make much sense. As soon as you’ve imported an item, cut its name down to make it nice and clean. Just leave the most important 3-4 words that contain the category keyword and help your visitor understand what it is.

SEO for ecommerce websites: Ugly product title imported from AliExpress to a dropshipping store

It is best to leave the name of a category and 1-2 unique features of a product:

Short product title after editing

Now this name is short, understandable, and more or less unique. It is based upon the ‘enamel pin’ keyword. The new title contains the name of a product category (‘pin’), the material of the product (‘enamel’) and its shape (‘Aeropress). That’s everything your customer needs to know!

2) Edit product URL

In the previous example, we have changed the product name to a more SEO-friendly one, but the URL is still ugly:

A product page URL that requires editing

If you leave it just like this, it will be inconvenient for customers and unwelcomed by search engines. No one likes URLs that look spammy, with numbers and letters that don’t make sense, or with lots of random words. Let’s make it short and clear:

SEO for ecommerce websites: A short product page URL after editing

Now it contains the necessary keyword and looks short, clear, and relevant. Search engines will totally love it!

3) Write the best product descriptions and remember about SEO

This is absolutely essential! Write something unique and interesting about each product (you’re passionate about your niche and know everything about your niche, right?). You need to focus on the product’s features and benefits to make it appealing to your customers, and you definitely shouldn’t copy the description from a different website. The text should be about 200-300 words long. While creating your best product descriptions, don’t forget about SEO aspects: mention the keyword several times (but do not be too spammy). The optimal keyword density is about 3%

4) Write meta-tags (title and description)

Google will use them to show a piece of text in search results right next to the link to your website. The meta tags are easy to control with the Yoast SEO WordPress plugin. Sometimes Google can ignore your description and show some part of the on-page text with keywords instead. In this case, the best idea is to rewrite the description to make it more relevant for the search engine.

5) Write SEO ALT-tags for your images

If you include images in your product description, make sure to write ALT-tags for them – and don’t forget to include the keyword!

SEO for ecommerce websites: Editing the image alt attribute of an impage on a product page

This is really easy to do, and this simple action helps your web store become more accessible. This information is valuable to search engines, and Google pays great attention to ALT texts.

You can automate this process with our SEO Image Optimizer

6) Import product reviews

importing product reviews for e-commerce seo

Well, this is obvious. If you take real reviews that real people left on the supplier’s site, your store visitors will be able to learn much more about the product. Also, these reviews provide your store with unique content that is regularly updated, and search engines really like it.

7) Optimize the home page, categories, and subcategories

Don’t forget about them! They are as important as single product pages.

Optimizing the home page for search engines

Remember that SEO texts for these pages should be longer – about 300 words. You will also need to include the keyword into the text, but don’t use it too often: two or three times is enough.

How To Find AliExpress Trending Products For Dropshipping?

What are the basics of selecting AliExpress trending products for your store? Let’s learn how to filter and evaluate AliExpress items for this purpose!

Want to sell the hottest and most demanded items only? Receive WEEKLY updates on the most popular items on the market – and get every week’s bestsellers imported to your store AUTOMATICALLY!

The financial success of your eCommerce business heavily depends on the product offer you choose for your store.

By modifying your product strategy, you can raise your venture to new heights and boost the store performance significantly.

In order to do that, you need to ensure that the items you select and import from AliExpress meet a wide range of relevant criteria, and appeal to a wide customer audience.

So, how can you choose AliExpress hot products to sell that will make your business thrive?

Before going to AliExpress

Before you start searching for top-selling products on AliExpress, you must have a clear idea of what kind of goods are in demand. How do you come up with product ideas and check them? Well, there are at least four methods.

  • Check out social media

On social networks and similar platforms, people talk about different stuff including shopping. They discuss the problems they face and products that solve these problems. Therefore, if you manage to find groups and threads like this, you can get a clear idea of what kind of goods can sell well.

Visit social media, Quora and Reddit to find discussions related to the niche of your store.

  • Check out other online platforms

Another way to get an idea or two is to visit popular marketplaces – and first of all, Amazon. To find hot goods, simply sort offers in particular product categories. Also, check the customer reviews to see if these items really solve customers’ problems.

  • Use Google Trends

One can also check the demand for a particular product type with the help of Google Trends. It shows how the search volumes change over time, which can tell you if the interest is rising or dropping.

  • Do keyword research

And finally, one can use any keyword planner to check search volumes of different queries. A large number of queries clearly indicates high interest in a particular product type or category.

If you already know what product types you’re looking for, then it’s time to search for top-selling items on AliExpress.

How to use AliExpress to look for trending products to sell

Earlier, we’ve already provided you with an insight into AliExpress and its specific features. This blog entry will tell you more about the reasons why AliExpress is a great place to look for products.

How can you narrow down the choice of products available on AliExpress? First of all, you need to enter the focus keyword into the search bar.

Searching for best-selling dropshipping products on AliExpress.

The number of items you’ll get will be quite significant. It all depends on the niche, of course, but anyway, you will need to narrow your choice down further.

To do that, first of all tick the following boxes:

  • Free Shipping

You will only see the items that can be shipped to any destination worldwide with no additional charges. Many AliExpress sellers offer free shipping, and that’s the best option for a dropshipping business.

  • 4* and up

When you tick this box, you will see the items that have a high AliExpress customer rating.

Looking for AliExpress products with free shipping and a rating of 4+ stars.

Often, after this, you will still see too many items. So, one may find it too complicated to browse all the options. In this case, simply change the sorting parameters. Normally, the system shows you the best matching results first, but you can amend these settings, and look through alternatives you didn’t see before.

Filtering AliExpress search results.

  • If you click the ‘Orders’ button, you will first of all see the items that are most frequently bought by AliExpress visitors. Most typically, these items are quite cheap. Normally, they come with a wide variety of customer reviews, and we will further explain why this is important.
  • If you click the ‘Newest’ button, you will first of all see the items that appeared on the platform most recently. This feature is exceptionally important for those who have already added items to their store some time before. There is no doubt that you should renew your product offering from time to time. This is why it is convenient to monitor only the fresh offers.
  • If you click the ‘Seller rating’ button, you will first of all see the items that got the highest recognition from customers.
  • Finally, if you click the ‘Price’ button, you will be able to sort the results by price: either from low to high, or from high to low.

Please note that you can narrow down the choices even more! To do this, adjust some additional search settings: price range, the opportunity to purchase a single product only, etc. Apart from this, you can modify the search query itself in order to look for a very specific product type.

Sorting AliExpress search results by novelty.

The best products to sell: what features do they have?

Long story short, you have narrowed down the product options. Now you’re ready to browse through the available offers and choose the perfect dropshipping products to sell in your store. What are the most important product parameters to pay attention to?

  • Product description

Your store visitors will surely be interested in various consumer properties of the items you offer. Therefore, you need to ensure that each and every particular product you are going to add to your store has an exhaustive description that covers all the necessary aspects: size, color, weight, material, etc. Imagine your potential customers asking you the most typical questions about this product’s features. Will you be able to answer them?

  • Product photos

Bright and clear pictures are an integral part of a satisfactory product description. Ideally, it’s best to only pick the products that have enough high quality photos in their description. Take a look at this article to learn more about pictures and other elements of product descriptions that give additional value to your store.

  • Customer reviews

It is possible to import customer reviews on your product page along with the description and pictures. These reviews will have an exceptional value for your potential buyers, so pay attention to their quantity and content.

Also, note that you shouldn’t focus on 5-star reviews only. It’s Ok to have a couple of 4-star reviews either as it looks more realistic. Just make sure the complaints in these reviews are not critical.

  • Product rating

Along with seller rating, this parameter will let you know if previous customers highly valued this particular offer. In other words, you can estimate whether this product will enjoy high demand from your target audience.

  • The number of orders

The products you add to your store should have a commercial appeal to you. Therefore, you need to estimate in advance whether the profit you will get from this particular item will be satisfactory for you.

How to choose the right trending products on AliExpress quickly and easily?

No matter what search criteria you set, you need to always remember that you don’t necessarily have to browse all the available options manually. Imagine looking through thousands of closely similar items!

Modern and convenient technical solutions help you set some specific search criteria, use them to find trending products on AliExpress, and then automatically add these items to your store. Such an effortless import has an additional advantage. The auto-updating system integrates with AliExpress easily. It amends the product info in case the original seller decided to change something.

In other words, you won’t have to systematically visit all the AliExpress product pages and carefully check whether there is something new.

Now, you know how to choose AliExpress trending products and sell them in your store. Benefit from automated dropshipping solutions to make this task even easier, and enjoy your fruitful business!

Step-By-Step Guide On Finding Your Facebook Target Audience [Case Study]

When advertising, it’s hugely important to whom you advertise. If somebody doesn’t care about your product, making them buy it is almost impossible. In this case study, I will show you how the AliDropship team finds Facebook target audience for advertising.

Facebook advertising is an essential part of promotion strategies used by small and large businesses alike. Besides, by advertising products and services on Facebook, you also target people on Instagram since both platforms belong to the same company. It can be very efficient – that is if you successfully define your target audience.

A lot of entrepreneurs fail to attract customers when advertising on Facebook, although the product seems popular and affordable. It’s just that people don’t click on your ad!

In most cases, it happens because you target the wrong audience. People belonging to different ages, genders, cultures and having different income levels and interests demonstrate different purchasing behaviors. And your job is to identify these patterns.

In this article, I am going to show you a simple method used by the AliDropship team to find the right Facebook target audience when they advertise products from our own dropshipping stores.

AliDropship’s most successful dropshipping websites become our Premium Stores. If you want a fast and relatively effortless start in dropshipping, you can purchase one of them to get an exact copy of a successful business.

Keep reading to learn how to target Facebook users with ads in 5 simple steps. But first, let’s talk about the types of Facebook audiences you can target.

Types of Facebook audiences

Audiences based on Facebook interests

You could say this is the standard, default option for any newly created ad campaign on Facebook. After creating such audiences, one can save them for further use. That’s why you can also call them saved audiences.

Here, instead of targeting every single user on FB, you set a number of demographic parameters such as location, age range, gender, and language. But the most important part is the detailed targeting. This menu lets you reach people with very specific demographics, interests and behavior. Click on ‘Browse’ to see all the options if you’re not sure what interests to target.

Detailed targeting settings for a Facebook audience

These options are great for both testing new, unfamiliar niches or products and for targeting pre-tested audiences. In this cases study, our team used this type of audience. But at later phases of promotion, they utilize other audiences as well.

Custom audiences

When you create a saved audience, you target unknown users that share common traits. Custom audiences consist of people who have already interacted with your business either on your Facebook page or your website. These are actual people who have visited your website, or a particular page, or watched one of your video posts, etc.

To create a custom audience based on the data from your website or another source, you will need to setup a pixel.

Here you can further customize these audiences to pick certain people from the overall pool of users. For example, instead of targeting every site visitor, you can pick only those who visited a specific product page or added a product to the cart. Or those who watched 95% of your video posts, like in the screenshot.

Custom Facebook audience consisting of video viewers

In the retention section, you can set the time period when the event happened. For example, if you set it to 30 days, Facebook will include in the audience those users who performed the action not earlier than 30 days ago. As a rule, ‘recent’ users convert much better than somebody who performed the same action 120 or 360 days ago.

Lookalike audiences

This is another type of Facebook audiences based on pixel data. Lookalikes are generated by Facebook based on a custom audience. The social media’s AI analyzes a custom audience and then finds Facebook users with similar traits, behaviors, demographics, etc.

For example, if you have a custom audience of 2,000 people who watched 95% of your video ad, you can create a lookalike and reach a very similar audience that consists of millions of potential buyers!

Creating a lookalike audience on Facebook

When setting up a lookalike, you can customize the location (where users reside) and the audience size.

Facebook lookalike audience settings

In the audience size section, you will see a percentage scale. This parameter reflects how similar to the original custom audience the lookalike will be. So, if you set it to 0-1%, Facebook will try to find users as similar to the original audience as possible. If you set it to 9-10%, Facebook can also include in the lookalike a certain number of users who are somehow different from the original audience.

And it’s not necessarily better or worse. Sometimes 0-1% indeed show more interest in your product and convert better. Sometimes you find the most successful audience size somewhere in the middle.

To experiment with sizes, one can set the number of lookalike audiences. In the screenshot, we have 5 audiences with the same number of users but different degrees of similarity. This configuration will let us test each of them and find the best-performing one.

Special Ad audiences

Such ads are used in employment, housing, credit, and similar spheres. Special Ad audiences work the same way as lookalikes. But to avoid discrimination of any sort, Facebook doesn’t allow you to target specific ages, or genders, or zip codes, etc.

So, businesses selling goods usually don’t use Special Ad audiences.

How to target the right audience on Facebook?

Now, let’s talk about how our team analyzes potential buyers and finds audiences on Facebook. In this case, our team advertised an avocado plush toy.

Avocado plush toy in a dropshipping store

You may remember this cutie from the article on how to create an attractive product page in which I mentioned it. Well, this time it’s going to become the central character of the story!

The team started from scratch and invested $1,727.19 in a range of Facebook campaigns. The revenue equaled $2,264 which is not bad for starters considering the team had little idea on who can be interested in this product.

Facebook advertising expenditures and revenue

Don’t get scared by the numbers. You don’t have to run experimental campaigns for as long as AliDropship does nor spend as much money as the team.

But let’s get back to our guide. After you have chosen a product to advertise and installed the Facebook pixel, this is what you do.

Step #1: Look for similar ads/products

Of course, you can try to guess who your potential customers are and what they like. Nobody says it’s impossible. But Facebook audience targeting should be based on solid facts rather than on speculations.

Therefore, finding your Facebook target audience starts with looking at what other entrepreneurs create.

The team uses AdSpy to find products similar to what we are going to promote that are being advertised by others on Facebook and Instagram. Moreover, the database can show you ads created by dropshipping businesses.

You can learn more about AdSpy from our article on how to find the best ecommerce products for dropshipping.

Here are some ads the team found.

Ads promoting an avocado plush toy found on AdSpy

As you can see, the posts advertise the same or very similar plush toys. Just what we need! It’s also a good idea to look for the same product on Amazon.

Step #2: Read user comments and reviews

The whole purpose of this is to find and read customer reviews and comments. As you know, people just love expressing their opinions and feelings on social networks, but they actually do that on Amazon too. If you’re looking for detailed customer feedback, just go to Amazon.

Important note! People from different countries may like different things about the same product. Therefore, always analyze buyers from those countries you are going to dropship to. If you want to sell globally, simply target buyers from developed countries such as the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, etc.

Your goal here is to play a detective and try to figure out what all the buyers have in common. For efficient Facebook audience targeting, one needs to know what exactly buyers like about the product.

Here are some reviews we found there.

Customer reviews on an avocado plush toy

We also found a number of detailed reviews on Facebook ads mentioned above, but Amazon is usually much more informative.

These are just several examples, but the point is all these buyers like how cute the toy is. Before the team started this analysis, they actually wanted to target people who like plush toys. But after reading these reviews, they began to have second thoughts.

It means one needs more information on actual buyers of this product to pick the right Facebook target audience. Which leads us back to Facebook.

Step #3: Analyze Facebook users’ accounts

This time, we’re looking for what people, who commented on the ad posts we found earlier, like. Nowadays a Facebook page can give you more information than the CIA! So pick random users from the countries you want to dropship to and check what they post and what they like.

Checking 20-30 people is usually enough.

How to enter the "likes" section on a Facebook user's page

The most important part is to take a look at what groups they follow as it shows what kind of content they want to consume. Here’s what the team found on one of the accounts:

Social groups followed by a Facebook user

And here’s another user with even more groups related to the product we want to advertise:

Groups followed by a Facebook user

As you can see, none of them show interest in plush toys. So targeting an audience with the corresponding interest would probably be a mistake. What they really like are cartoons and anime, which brings us back to “cute” stuff that the team set as audience’s interests.

Targeting an audience with Facebook interests

They actually tested a number of other interests just to make sure. However, as you will see later, anime was one of the audience’s most explicit interests after all.

Step #4: Test the waters

Our Facebook audience targeting isn’t finished yet. First of all, we need to test the interests of our potential customers, but that’s not all.

When setting up a Facebook ad, targeting specific demographics is very important. The problem is you can’t target everyone! Actually, you can, but it’s going to be a waste of time and money.

For example, I can advertise dresses to all ages… and genders. I’m sure I’ll be able to find a couple of men who would buy a dress for whatever reason. But I’ll have to spend a lot of money for the sake of just one or two buyers.

Therefore, I need to know my Facebook target audience very well. On the other hand, as I said earlier, simple guessing will not work, which means we’ll have to test things!

From our previous analysis, we know that the potential buyers of the avocado toy like cute things, cartoons and anime. We also target people with a relatively high income level (living in developed countries). But what about their age and gender?

Unfortunately, the information we’ve gathered so far is not enough to come to a conclusion. Besides, if your product has very different variations, there’s no way you can predict which will get more views if placed in an ad.

Therefore, at this phase, the team had to target a wide audience. They ran the ad for a couple of days to gather more data and see how different segments of the audience reacted to the ad.

For example, the leading interests became “anime” and “avocado” while others showed unsatisfying results.

Performance of Facebook ads testing different audiences

The team also tested genders and ages. After a few days, they noticed that people older than 34 showed little interest in the product. As for genders, they found no considerable difference.

Step #5: Redefine Facebook target audience

After getting the first results and seeing what demographics react to the ad better, you can redefine such parameters as gender, age, location, interests, etc. It’ll let you focus on a more responsive audience. This is the result we got after redefining the target audience:

Best performing Facebook audience

There’s actually much more to say about how to target Facebook users with ads. This audience is pretty “cold” which means they have most likely never heard about the avocado toy. Some of them will get interested and even buy it, but some will just visit the product page and leave.

Ideally, you should retarget these people with more Facebook ads or follow-ups and create lookalike audiences on Facebook. That’s when you should start making real money. But this case study is an example of a simple way to define your initial target audience.

As a result, the team managed to earn about $537. It may seem not much, but don’t forget it was just research, so to speak. Now that we know what kind of people can buy this product, we can start advertising in full force.

The AliDropship team always experiments with advertising strategies to improve our own dropshipping websites. If you wish to make use of their experience, you can purchase one of AliDropship’s Premium Stores or become an owner of a unique Established Store along with all these marketing materials including Facebook target audiences.
